3-3/4″ x 5-3/8″, on recycled cake mix box cardboard

This collage was originally created for my artist friend Bobbi Mastrangelo’s blog tribute to 9/11: ARTISTS’ CONTRIBUTIONS FOR 9/11/2011 TRIBUTE.  Look in the comments section for my recollection of the first time I ever saw the Twin Towers (in 1971).  And while you’re there, take a look around the rest of Bobbi’s site — she’s the world’s leading expert on art related to manhole covers.  (I’m serious.)

The Material Whirl: 09.10.11 — Shanksville

This collage is 5-3/8″ x 3-5/8″, on recycled cake mix box cardboard.  I worked on it as I watched the Flight 93 Memorial dedication on television just before the observance of the 10th anniversary of 9/11.  I was not able to do justice to the brilliant green of the field behind the speakers at the podium, with its waving wildflowers, but I came as close as I could with the materials on hand.
