The Material Whirl: 01.06.12 — Bemelman’s Dharma

6 Jan
Z-01

3-3/4″ x 5-5/8″, on recycled cereal box cardboard

Upper left and lower right:  Tibetan painting on cloth, 18th century, from the collection of the Rubin Museum of Art in New York.  My image came from a PBS monthly program guide.  Read more about the original at  Tina’s Dreamland blog.

Upper right and lower left:  Ludwig Bemelmans, writer and illustrator of the famous “Madeline” children’s books, created these murals for the bar of the Carlyle Hotel in New York in 1947 in exchange for 18 free months at the hotel.  My image came from a travel magazine.
